Irrevocable Assignment of Benefits – AOB

By March 14, 2018January 25th, 2024No Comments

An AOB or Assignment of Benefits agreement is being used in many hospitals today. This agreement, if signed, gives the healthcare provider the right to receive payment directly from your insurance carrier for bills and healthcare related charges. For instance, it will require PIP (Personal Injury Protection) carriers to pay healthcare related bills directly to the provider on behalf of the treated person. We are not opposed to paying these bills. However, by signing an AOB the client loses the right to negotiate these bills and use the proceeds for future healthcare cost.  Therefore, I recommend not signing an AOB agreement.
